3 Things to Do on a Tired Friday Night Spent Inside – Alone
Some middle-aged men find it otiose to go out “with the boys” on a Friday night. It’s not that they are not looking for fun anymore – it’s that their idea of fun is not going to a pub, having a couple of cold ones and discuss sports, politics or whatever else. But some of the same middle-aged men find little excitement in the other options they have at hand, especially after a long week at work. I know I do: by Friday my IQ drops to 50%, my energy reserves are almost depleted, so that even reading a pulp magazine is a burden I’m not sure I can support. But there are ways, mindless and relaxing ways to fill the gap between the time you finally sit back and the time when your latest dose of caffein exits your system. Like these fatuous things you can do online.
Grab a cold one and start judging people by their social media updates
I find it surprisingly relaxing to sit in front of my PC at night, with a glass of wine or a pint of beer at hand, and judge my friends on social media. It’s so effective in keeping my mind off my own problems that I think I’m starting to become addicted. I don’t express my feelings about their drama and petty issues, though – it all goes down in my head. By the time I finish my beer (and open the next one) my mind is numb, floating and relaxed, ready to hit the bunk.
Comfort food and “joker” movies
Think of the dish that you would never refuse. Preferably one that you can eat with your hands – to hell with etiquette, you’re alone, right? Cook it. Cook more of it. Cook enough to have leftovers for breakfast. To hell with your diet – your peace of mind is often more important. Browse through your collection of “joker” movies – the ones that you can watch over and over again – and choose one that appeals to your current half-wit state. I usually go with either a sci-fi, or a horror flick (preferably both). Then curl up on the sofa wrapped in a blanket, relax, eat and watch. Caution: you might fall asleep (I usually do).
