Above & Beyond Release New Single “Hello”
Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki aka Above & Beyond have been on the trance circuit since 2000 and have continued to fight for a thing called love ever since. After making a quick, innovative, and very sold out acoustic experience in London and L.A., the world has been anticipating what the group will do next. This time around they’re assisting their label Anjunabeats in its 300th release. The song is called “Hello” and it shows how truly versatile Above & Beyond can be.
“Hello” first debuted in their Above & Beyond Group Therapy 050 set at London’s 10,000 capacity Alexandra Palace. The song starts out from the top and works its way down, much quicker than the usual “build and drop.” Listeners get what they’re waiting for right off the bat for an aural kick start. Recognizable chords set up the beat that is bound to make heads bob and shoulders sway from side to side; which then breaks down into the emotional and thick sound Above & Beyond fans anticipate. The iconic keyboard calms the heart and the orchestral track gives listeners a chance to breathe before the second build. “Hello” is characteristic of what we’ve heard from Above & Beyond lately after their Group Therapy release, and we can’t wait for another album.
The recurring argument among some Above & Beyond fans? They miss the Oceanlab feel that the trio has previously released. The beat gets lost in the sea of electro-house for which Anjunabeats is so well known. However, every time the group plays a big arena or festival, that hard-hitting but distinctive big room sound gets the crowd to squeeze a little tighter. The dancing gets more intense, the people in front get a little more sweaty, but they forget the world around them with greater ease. Bass releases endorphins, we need not forget that. It’s easy to listen to a song with vocals and overlook the complexities of the music behind them. Above & Beyond will never lose their heartfelt and earnest roots, but they’ve always had those booty-shaking beats. It seems those with complaints about the “new sound” haven’t listened hard enough to older releases. Maybe within the next few months, the group will collaborate with another amazing voice to add lyrics to “Hello,” creating a whole new level to their already intense musical display. Every singer they’ve collaborated with thus far has far from disappointed Above & Beyond’s dedicated fans, and has always brought heightened emotion to the bass. So, fans need not worry, as every artist evolves and changes — people grow and if music stayed static, we’d all get bored. Thank you for going Above & Beyond. Check out the preview to “Hello” from Danny Howard’s BBC Radio 1, released as the Future Anthem for the show. The single can also be purchased from Beatport.
