Alesso feat. Roy English – “Cool”
What is with those Swedes that make great dance music?! It has to be something in their diet that helps their creativity flow. Alesso debuted his latest single recently on BBC Radio 1 and it is an absolute delight. “Cool” continues on the same upbeat path that “Heroes (we could be)” did, with lush vocals from Roy English. And can I just mention that I am loving the Kylie sample? The song is built upon the piano melody from “Get Outta My Way“, a track that Alesso relies heavily on — and that’s not a bad thing. In between sampling, the Swede turns the song into a progressive house track meant for late nights out. From its Kylie origins to its potential as a dance floor anthem, it’s clear that Alesso chose well and produced a dance gem.
Some listeners, however, have criticized the producer for the song’s heavy usage of samples from the pop star’s 2010 single. Whether you want to admit it or not, Minogue had a number one dance hit with the Cutfather-producer track, and Alesso is most likely going to head down the same route, considering his collaboration with Tove Lo got airplay on Top 40 stations. As with Tove Lo on the “Heroes” track, Roy’s vocals only add to the feel-good nature of the track, as the Californian singer dreamily sings about someone that makes him wanna lose his cool when he’s around them. Meanwhile, Kylie has tweeted that she loves the track and Roy tweeted back that they were paying homage to the goddess of love.
