André 3000 as Jimi Hendrix in “All Is By My Side”
In all that is good and right with the world, actor and rapper André 3000 is slated to portray Jimi Hendrix in the late singer’s biopic, All Is By My Side.
The film, depicting a brief section of Hendrix’s life and rise to fame, has been shown widely in many film festivals (starting with SXSW) but has yet to be released to mainstream theatres and has been delayed further for a September 26th premiere. Directed by John Ridley (who also put his name to 12 Years A Slave), the film will follow one very influential year of Hendrix’s life, from his origins at the NYC Cheetah Club, to his movement to the London music scene, culminating in his widely-acclaimed Monterey Pop Festival set. Among the star-studded cast (Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell, Burn Gorman) there is no doubt that André — of Outkast fame, whose return to the magical duo and many musical festivals this year, such as Bonnaroo and Coachella — will shine the brightest. Although André 3000 is best known for his music with duo partner Big Boi (with tracks like “Hey Ya” and “Roses”), he has also added several big-name films into his repertoire, such as dramas Idlewild and Four Brothers, and the Will Ferrell comedy Semi-Pro.
One can only imagine what depth and charisma this talented actor will bring to a complex musical idol such as Jimi Hendrix.
