Art Outside 2014: Music, Workshops, and Art – Oh my!
The one-of-a-kind transformative festival Art Outside is just a little over a month away! This festival is held at the beautiful Apache Pass in Downtown, Texas from October 24-27th. Art Outside is a three day long event that packs in some of the greatest varieties in music, tons of amazing workshops, and of course – absolutely breathtaking art. On-site camping is even included in the multi-day ticket price and adds an extra dimension of awesomeness to the festival. This will be the 10th annual Art Outside – and is sure to be one of the greatest yet!
The music lineup is jam-packed with some of the greatest, most diverse and unique artists of any festival I have attended. The musical acts range from local blue grass to funky dub, to experimental dance and everything in between. Check out the full lineup here. With over 50 artists in attendance you are sure to find something that fits your mood anytime of day. If you’re having some trouble deciding which acts to catch be sure and click here to see which five artists you definitely do not want to miss!
Whenever you aren’t busy dancing to the groovy tunes, be sure to check out one of the many workshops! Art Outside hosts a selection of the interactive, informative and interesting workshops ranging from acro-yoga to wire wrapping – with something for everyone and every age. The workshops offer many opportunities to really connect with other festival-goers while developing skills and having a blast. Among the workshops offered a few that stand out are: ‘Stress Relief and Aromatherapy’, ‘Food is Beautiful Medicine’, Ecstatic Dance Revolution’, ‘How to Hoop Dance’, ‘Beginner Poi’ to name a few. Check out the complete list of workshops offered at this year’s Art Outside right here. It’s a rare opportunity to have such an abundance of resources and teachers in one place so take advantage and make sure to check out as many classes as you can squeeze in to your weekend!
Aside from the music and the workshops there is of course an abundance of- you guessed it – Art! Art Outside offers an amazing chance for artists to take their work outside to the viewers. This gives the attendees the opportunity to experience and interact with work that may otherwise not have a chance to be seen by so many. The art is not limited to any one medium and ranges from huge structures to photo galleries, to transportation devices disguised as owls and butterflies. There is art literally everywhere you look and it is a beautiful sight to behold.
The energy at Art Outside fuels not only the attendees but also the live painters. Some of the greatest artists gather for this festival and paint while experiencing the good vibes of the festival. It’s incredible watching the artists producing art right in front of you, and especially wonderful seeing the progress of the art throughout the weekend.
We asked one of our favorite artists, Chance Roberts what he thinks about Art Outside, here’s what he had to say about the festival:
“Art outside is my favorite festival by far because its where I got my start as an artist. It was the main catalyst of inspiration at the right time in my life to convince me to pursue art full time and forever. There is something magical about the land, and the good intentions of those who hold it can be seen and felt in every aspect of the festival. Its a festival for artists by artists.”
Make sure to say hello to Chance if you see him around and be sure to watch his beautiful art transform and develop throughout your time at the festival. We can’t wait to see what the artists will have in store for us this year! Click here for a list of other live painters that will be showcasing their talents at the event.
Art Outside is unlike any other festival or event and this is certainly a weekend you don’t want to miss. Aside from the music workshops and art there are also lots of yummy food and beverage vendors, art and merchandise vendors and much more. Art Outside also puts a very strong emphasis on being eco-friendly and offers lots of ‘green initiatives’ including (from their website):
- Solar Power: Phone charging station & stage production
- Bio Diesel: Local restaurant’s cooking oil waste powers the festival
- Carbon Offset: Tree planting at Apache Pass post-event
- Workshops: Guest speakers host inspiring talks & hands on sessions
- Filtered Water: Free & clean H2O to keep everyone going
- Eco Village: Educational non-profits & Sustainability partner booths
Check out the stats on how much was recycled, composted, and thrown away over the last couple years at the festival here. Being environmentally conscious is just another of the many reasons Art Outside is a favorite to so many festival-goers.
