AURA Track of the Day: The Disco Biscuits – “Morph Dussledorf”
Today’s track of the day is a bit of a throwback and comes from AURA Music & Arts Festival headliners The Disco Biscuits. The track, “Morph Dussledorf,” is off their 2006 album The Wind at Four to Fly. From the first eight bars and opening lyrics, the band takes off into a chaotic opening held together by careful composition and precise execution. After the opening verse is sung, you are sent on a Marc Brownstein (bass, vocals) led jam through the deepest and darkest corners of space. This gives Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig (guitar, vocals), and Aron Magner (keyboards, vocals) . This patient, psychedelic jam builds until about the ten minute mark, when former drummer Sam Altman takes control and throws the jam into a filthy drum and bass peak, followed closely by the ending lyrics.
Coming off what many agree as the best New Year’s run in years and a raging three-night run in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory, the Biscuits are making their first stop in Florida since 2011 at AURA Music & Arts Festival. The band joins Grateful Dead members Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart at Red Rocks Amphitheater in April for Bisco Inferno. Now, we patiently await to see and hear what else The Disco Biscuits have in store for us in 2015. (Can I get a “Camp”?)
If you’re still on the fence about making the trip to Live Oak, this quartet should make up your mind. After being heavily teased in Philly, I am fairly confident Morph Dussledorf will make an appearance this weekend when the Biscuits take to the Amphitheater Stage for two night sets on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:45PM and 12:15 to 1:45AM. Pre-sale three and four day passes are still available for $175 and $205 plus taxes and fees.
