Backwoods Artist Not To Miss: Calliope Musicals
Backwoods Music Festival has changed a little bit since last year. Originally an indie, folk and Americana festival, this year organizers have added a little more hip hop and electronic acts to the lineup. But, if you’re looking to catch some of the indie and folk music you know and love, do not miss Calliope Musicals.
Hailing from Austin, Texas, Calliope Musicals have dubbed themselves “psychedelic party folk,” and their music and stage presence truly deliver on that genre. They have clear folk and Americana roots and they’re not afraid to get a little crazy. Their songs are easy to learn, poetic and hard not to sing along to. They call for their entire audience to leave happy and remember how awesome life can be at times. A full group of 6 people, Calliope Musicals create recognizable folk inspired melodies with beautiful guitar, drums, bass, and even a vibraphone that all elegantly bounce off of one another. Front woman Carrie Fussell has a stage presence unlike any other. Her voice is beautiful, soulful and powerful. It flawlessly sets the stage for the party that’s in front of you. Each member of the group maintains a smile and a little bit of pep in their step, feeding off of each other’s energy. Surprisingly (or maybe by choice) Calliope Musicals are not signed to a label, but their live sets are what truly make them special. Catch them this year at Backwoods Music Festival in Stroud, Oklahoma Labor Day weekend. Tickets are on sale now!
