The Skinny on Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain 2019
If you’ve been following Sensible Reason for a while, you’ve likely heard us talking about Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain. If you’re just tuning in, we’ve been raving about this festival since we ran our free hookah lounge at Backwoods Music Festival in 2015 and 2016. The festival began with humble beginnings and only keeps growing. Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain is essentially Backwoods Bash 3.0 and we are pumped for this year’s event. In case you’re a little behind and need a refresher, we’re here to help with some updates and anything you’ll need to know to collect your squad and head to Ozark, Arkansas for an amazing Memorial Day Weekend, May 31st – June 2nd.
If you noticed above, we referred to Backwoods by 3 different names. This isn’t an accident. Backwoods Bash Camping and Music Festival was the OG. Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the festival was mainly local favorites and ran for a handful of years before getting an upgrade. Backwoods Music Festival was the next milestone. Held at the gigantic and beautiful Tatanka Ranch in Stroud, OK, the festival was now too big for its own good. The lineup included some huge national and international acts, and Backwoods entered into stardom. Backwoods Music Festival ran for 2 years, and they were glorious, but the people of Stroud had a different plan. The municipality didn’t want the festival to run for another year, but Backwoods organizers did not give up. Taking 2017 off to regroup, Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain resurfaced at a new location and on a new date. This year, Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain moved its date again, but only for the hopes of warmer weather (and who can complain about less rain?).
This year’s festival has a bigger lineup than we’ve ever seen. With headliners Rezz, Umphrey’s McGee, and Zeds Dead, the festival is bound to bring the best headbangers and dancers around. Check out the full lineup below.
Speaking of dancers, performers of all kinds have attended Backwoods, and this year is no different. The festival creates an immersive experience by surrounding attendees with talented people doing acro-yoga, staff, poi, hula hoop, and walking on stilts. These performers are often regular people with an amazing hobby. Make sure and check out some of the amazing performers that help make the festival experience that much better.
Not quite at performer level? Even if you are, Backwoods has a ton of workshops to help everyone learn and improve at whatever they may practice. From yoga to hula hoop to meditation and more, check out the full workshop lineup below presented by ENDo Water. More info can be found right here.
For those who can’t get enough of the festival experience, there is a festival pre-party at Backwoods with Yonder Mountain String Band. Jam your way into Mulberry Mountain as the festival’s main stage opens for a special 2-hour pre-party on Thursday night. Tickets can be found right here. Also, don’t forget to check out the Trail to the Woods concert series leading up to the festival.
