The History and Return of Backwoods (at Mulberry Mountain)
In 2015, a small local festival called Backwoods Bash received an upgrade. The festival took a huge leap from an annual party to a full weekend festival at Tatanka Ranch in rural Oklahoma. The rolling hills turned into a magical place for art lovers of all kinds. Backwoods emerged onto the national festival scene in flawless fashion. The grounds were complete with a pond for swimming, unique handmade stages, and a helicopter to catch an aerial view of the grounds. We even got involved in the magic. For 2 years, Sensible Reason used our humble means to create a free hookah lounge for patrons of Backwoods Music Festival. Everyone in attendance at the festival had room to dance and get to know each other.
Unfortunately, Backwoods at Tatanka Ranch came to an end at the end of 2016. The folks of the ranch, as well as the municipality, simply didn’t desire to handle the growing influx of festival attendees. In 2017, the festival took a small hiatus to ensure the festival’s triumphant return in the future. Organizers put out an official statement promising bigger and better things. As promised, the festival has a new venue, a new date, a new landscape, but all the good vibes. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait until September for the festival. Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain returns April 20-22, 2018 at the gorgeous and unbeatable Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas. We can’t wait to see what’s in store.
In case you were too busy planning for the holidays, the first wave lineup for Backwoods is out now. Check it out below.
