Backwoods Music Festival Track of the Day: Porter Robinson – “Fresh Static Snow”
Porter Robinson has taken the world by storm since his Worlds album premiered last year. The anticipation for the young producer’s debut album led to mass hype and well deserved attention. Many music-based sites heralded the North Carolinian as reviving the electronic dance music genre, embracing the change that many listen to on Top 40 stations. When the first single, “Sea of Voices,” made its way to the Internet, some considered it similar to M83’s style. When more singles were announced from the album, the various sounds gave life to its namesake album title.
“Fresh Static Snow” is one of the more harder electronic songs introduced on the album — coincidentally being my favorite — and Robinson himself commented some of the songs were connecting to his own personal life and emotions, with this particular track speaking directly for him. The hard hitting track utilizes the vocaloid from the album’s lead single, while the lyrics echo a sense of loneliness in a world that contains billions of people. Firmly believing that there exists another person for every soul in the world, the lyrics reflect the producer’s views on finding a significant other.
You can catch Porter Robinson performing at Backwoods Music Festival during September 4-6 alongside acts such as Manic Focus, Lettuce and more. Tickets are still available for General Admission, VIP as well as RV Passes. Visit the official site for the festival here.
