Backwoods Track of the Day: Break Science – “Breath of Space”
Today’s Backwoods Music Festival track of the day features the ethereal sounds of Break Science. Based and influenced out of New York City, the electronic duo’s track “Breath of Space (feat. Sonya Kitchell)” is sure to get your body groovin’ in anticipation of festival season.
Released in 2013, this spacey melody was the second released single off the duo’s first full-length record, Seven Bridges. The album contains 13 songs with an incredibly original sound featuring a whole lot of electronic/ hip-hop/ glitch-hop/ dubstep/ jazz vibes. “Breath of Space” being no exception, this jam travels to some extra-chill musical territory as the noises seem to flow much more freely as opposed to Break Science’s heavier-hitting tracks.
The song is light and flowing with lyrics that truly speak to the listener. “Wanting more, needing less / Oh, the ever-present feeling of loneliness…” are only some of the many poetic phrases heard in this dreamy track. They allow us to get in touch with those inner demons that we as generation-Y millennials know all too well. Basically, the tune provides just enough relatable lyrics to grab our attention and make us feel before we dance it all away, and then hit the repeat button. It’s that good.
Full of trippy noises and synths, the angelic vocals of Sonya Kitchell kick in next before breaking into a soulful drop. Displaying additional hints of hip-hop beats and tribal bongo action towards the end, “Breath of Space” is an attention-grabbing track full of meaning that’s sure to satisfy. With that being said, check out Break Science on tour this year at one of their many stops across the country, Backwoods Music Festival in Oklahoma being one of them in September for Labor Day Weekend.
