Camp Bisco TOTD: Lotus – “Eats The Light”
Nothing compares to seeing Lotus live, whether it is at an indoor venue or outdoor music festival, these five guys from Indiana are constantly touring to showcase their jamtronica expertise. Formed in 1999, Lotus has had years and more than a dozen albums to experiment with a sound that makes the band unique. A seamless blend of jam and electronic elements creates a beautiful foundation; however, Lotus expands and explores the spectrum of sound by incorporating aspects of other genres to tailor their music to the needs of the audience. Now that’s showing love to your fans!
Jesse Miller, bassist/writer, reflects on Lotus’ newest single by saying, “We wanted a timeless sound to the song, so we kept stripping down layers to keep a very live arrangement and the mixing was approached in the same way.” There is something magical about experiencing a live Lotus show that “Eats the Light” is able to capture.
“Eats the Light” begins with a dizzy, disorienting sample that resembles a mind running wild. From there, energizing drums and a funky guitar melody are accompanied by a bouncy synth. Lotus explores the value of lyrics on their latest single with a catchy chorus that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head. The vocals describe the consuming nature of music — it’s everywhere! The lyrics are just as dizzying; from hands, to head, to everywhere, to street, until it’s a machine.
“Connections everywhere, my body is in between”
The instrumental section directs the message of the lyrics inward for a full-body experience. A psychedelic jam gets progressively faster and more intense, captivating the audience. Until…Lotus has placed you into a trance, join the tribe, become part of the machine.
Lotus will be playing at Camp Bisco at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania on July 14-16. Other headliners include The Disco Biscuits, Odesza, Big Grizmatik, RL Grime, STS9, Zeds Dead, and many more. Purchase your tickets here and we’ll see you on the mountain.
