Fifth annual Catskill Chill Music Festival unveils 2014 artist line-up featuring Yonder Mountain String Band with special guest Allie Kral, The New Deal, Lettuce, Electron, Shpongle (Simon Posford DJ Set), Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Papadosio, The New Mastersounds and 60 more artists!
The Catskill Chill is returning to Camp Minglewood in Hancock, NY for a 5th consecutive year with another lineup full of heavy hitters and Hudson Valley heroes. In its half decade, the Chill has become the premier festival of its size, endearing itself to loyal patrons with its “summer camp for grown ups” vibe and dedication to improving the experience every year. A lot of festivals toss around the term “family,” but Catskill Chill means it, and often goes above and beyond the call of duty to put on a truly unique event that remains embedded at the top of many festival goers’ yearly to-do list. Of course, the music is at the forefront of any successful fest and the Chill always delivers on that front, offering a selection of funk, jam, electronic and more to please the most discerning music lover’s palate. This year’s highlights include newly reformed jamtronica pioneers The New Deal, the quasi-Bisco supergroup Electron, the bluegrass jammers Yonder Mountain String Band, psytrance swami Shpongle and more tribute sets than you can shake a stick at, from Grateful Dead to Parliament Funkadelic. Hancock, New York (April 29, 2014) Taking place at the picturesque Camp Minglewood in Hancock, New York September 5th – 7th, 2014, Catskill Chill Music Festival unveils the lineup for their fifth anniversary, once again providing an intimate experience that delivers big name acts up close and personal in a secluded summer camp environment.
A the top of this year’s artist line-‐up is Yonder Mountain String Band with special guest Allie Kral, The New Deal, Lettuce, Electron, Shpongle (Simon Posford DJ Set), Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Papadosio, The New Mastersounds, Dopapod, Kung Fu, Particle, Break Science, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Marco Benevento, The Breakfast, The Heavy Pets and Orchard Lounge.
While the performance schedule alone is reason enough to attend this annual event, it is the intimacy and unique grounds that make Catskill Chill one of the most highly anticipated festivals of the season. With a limited capacity, no campsite is more than a few minute walk to the stages and anyone can make their way up to the front for their favorite sets. Hosted at a secluded performing arts summer camp where childhood dreams merge with the music festival culture, the “Chillfam” as Chill’s loving community have coined themselves, bunk-‐up in 16-‐person sleep away camp-‐style cabins, creating decorated theme camps and hosting late-‐night jams. Two of the five stages, the intimate Acoustic Junction and the DJ Stage are located in the heart of the campground, filling Camp Minglewood with music of all genres from morning until night. The festival also features free parking, free camping, daily yoga, live art, a farmer’s market, craft and food vendors, a communal bonfire nightly and an open mic.

Continuing their tradition of offering a unique twist with returning artists, the Chill has announced a number of tribute sets. In addition to their original sets, Turkuaz will pay homage to Sly & The Family Stone and Twiddle will offer up their electric take on Grateful Dead tunes, while Alan Evans’ Playonbrother tackles a set of legendary Cream. We will also see the unveiling of Aron Magner & Tom Hamilton: Acoustic Again at Acoustic Junction.
