Catskill Chill Artist Not To Miss: Cabinet
In just two short weeks, we’ll be embarking on another adventurous weekend at Catskill Chill. Surprises will surely lurk around every corner, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to familiarize yourself with some key acts to catch over the course of the festival. One such band is the twangy sextet Cabinet.
Fresh off the release of their latest album LEAP, the Pennsylvania bluegrass group will arrive at Camp Minglewood riding the energy of a tour across the Northeast, kicking off tonight (Aug. 22) at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck, NJ and culminating with an appearance at West Virginia’s Twin Rivers Music Festival the weekend prior to the Chill. Cabinet should be in prime form to move feet and melt faces with their unique take on American folk music from across decades and regions.
The group will be performing double duty at the Chill, with a set of originals Sunday afternoon at the main stage and, in what is becoming a Chill tradition, paying tribute to the Grateful Dead in Club Chill Friday night. The Dead set is likely to be heavy on material from the Americana-heavy 1970 album duo of American Beauty and Workingman’s Dead. It isn’t difficult to imagine the group taking on classics from that era like “Friend of the Devil” and “Ripple,” but hopefully they’ll have a few nifty tricks up their sleeves. Bluegrass “Terrapin Station” perhaps?
