CBD oil – is it what unconventional medicine is waiting for?
Legislators in the US are soon to legalize all cannabinoids that have no psychoactive effect. This opens up the market for new sleeping pills, anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics and supplements for awareness and attention. Is CBD oil the future of unconventional medicine? Or, perhaps, even conventional one?
CBD is becoming more and more popular
In October 2018 as many as 46 US states adopted some form of CBD legalization. The use and sales of this compound is not explicitly permitted under federal law, but it is often not enforced. In June last year, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved cannabidiol called Epidiolex to treat seizures associated with two rare forms of epilepsy. This is the first cannabis-based medicine approved by the FDA. Thanks to the growing popularity of CBD, consumers all over the world realize that not all cannabinoids, that is active chemical compounds originating from cannabis, result in the feeling of “being high”. Research suggests that some of them, instead of causing dullness and drowsiness, can actually increase mental clarity, suppress or stimulate appetite and enhance concentration.
CBD oil has an enormous potential
Most entrepreneurs who want to sell cannabinoids hope that products containing these compounds are going to be available without a prescription, as dietary supplements, before the actual medicines appear on the market. However, there is a problem – to sell cannabinoids as supplements, companies do not have to adhere to such stringent standards as in the case of medicine. Paradoxically, however, these are exactly those strict standards that consumers expect. Most people have never heard of such compounds as CBD, let alone their health benefits. Cannabis is popularly associated with smoking “joints”, that is both psychoactive and illegal. If cannabis-related products are to be available without a prescription, consumers expect such a level of safety and effectiveness as in the case of medicine.
Even so, today we are fully able to make an attempt to identify what kind of products are likely to be available in pharmacies and drugstores. Without doubt, CBD oil is going to be one of them.
