City Bisco TOTD: The Disco Biscuits -“Svenghali”
There’s nothing quite like being in the midst of The Disco Biscuits jamming out to high-energy song. This week’s track of the day, “Svenghali,” seems to nearly run off the rails while sending the listener into a tailspin of musical splendor. Basing this track off of the classic svengali character, a person who maliciously controls a creative person, transforms the track into something mystical and mysterious. We have grown to love these moments of “bisco inferno” which grab our attention and send our mind to distant lands. “Svenghali” situates the listener in the middle of a rockin’ live Bisco show, and we sure do enjoy the ride.
“Svenghali” begins in the middle of the action with the guitar and drums holding a quick pace. Gradually increasing speed, the track eventually reaches breakneck speed with a soaring guitar leading the way. The drums stand out as the conductor of a “musical cannonball” that reaches near insanity with a high-energy jam session. Just when the listener thinks they’ve reached their threshold, a brief section of lyrics gives our ears a little breather.
:In wide open spaces we sing with strings
Launch a full on musical cannonball
Guided by bells that we bring and they ring
Sound for the sky and the sun
Our own waterfall”
Lyrics explain the musical journey, and eventually the guitar soars in order to carry us away from the chorus and back into a blissful jam. This section is more spaced out, but the boys sure do deserve it after a killer first half. A guitar melody and emphasized drum beat leads to a calm ending. The Disco Biscuits have led us on a journey to the other side.
On August 18-20, The Disco Biscuits are returning to New York for this year’s City Bisco. Traditionally held in Pennsylvania, the three day concert run will be held at two separate locations in New York for 2016. The shows on the 18th & 19th will be held at Irving Plaza in Manhattan; however, the only way to gain entry into these shows is to purchase a three-day GA ticket. Click here to purchase! On the 20th, the band will be playing at the new Amphitheater on the Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn. Set to open in July, the semi-outdoor amphitheater has a capacity of 5,000 and the technology to adjust its construction in inclement weather. The 2016 edition of City Bisco is definitely an event not to be missed!
