Communist Daughter Unveil ‘Balboa Bridge’
Suicidal ideation. I remember reading those words a while back and it seemingly struck a chord with me. After having lived with anxiety and depression for most of my life, those two words continued to hang around me. While I have never attempted to take my life, a few friends have and it becomes a surreal experience. Minnesota-based band Communist Daughter tackles the subject of suicide and personal matters in their upcoming LP, The Cracks That Built The Wall, and more specifically in the gentle “Balboa Bridge.”
Frontman John Solomon explained the song’s subject matter by bringing up his mother’s tale of there being a park in San Diego where a bridge ran over a highway and how they used to call it suicide bridge. Now, many suicide bridges exist and draws many to it. Solomon himself stated that the thought didn’t seem so far and it was the only option. The Cracks That Built The Wall dives deep into personal matters and is the end result of Solomon’s stay in rehab and mental illness diagnosis.
The Cracks That Built The Wall is released on October 21st! Pre-order here!
