Cosby Sweater’s Wardrobe Change: Turbo Suit
Sure, Umphrey’s McGee played with some brass instruments. Yeah, they also played “Women, Wine and Song,” but the real surprise of the 2014-2015 New Year’s Eve Run at the Tabernacle in Atlanta was Cosby Sweater announcing that it was their last set as Cosby Sweater, EVER, during the VIP after hours party on January 2nd.
David Embry hinted at an announcement on January 5th, (today) and this morning “Turbo Suit” tweeted a picture of the infamous Cosby sweater on fire (That’s right, the one touted around on tour.).
According to confirmed sources affiliated with the band, they will be changing their name to Turbo Suit because of the rape allegations associated with Bill Cosby himself. It is easy to image what difficulty may arise when they try to get booked in west coast on a regular basis.
Also announced today was a winter tour and a new album called “Out Here,” featuring Jake Cinninger, Joel Cummins and Andy Farag from Umphrey’s McGee, Natalie Cressman from Trey Anastasio Band, Zion I, Probable Cause, and Joe Hettinga and Markus Rezak from Digital Tape Machine. It hasn’t been yet confirmed if the group still includes all of the original members or not.
The band is changing for the better, the evolution of a musical wardrobe, where some things are lost but never forgotten.
Watch below for the explanation from the band.
Along with the name change, the trio has announced dates for their winter tour which commences onJanuary 14th in Allston, Massachusetts. Turbo Suit will be touring in support of their forthcoming album,“Out Here,” which will be released this spring.
The new full-length album represents a musical raising-of-the-bar for the band. “Out Here” will feature an impressive roster of special guest including Jake Cinninger, Joel Cummins and Andy Farag (Umphrey’s McGee); Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band); Zion I; ProbCause; Joe Hettinga and Marcus Rezak (Digital Tape Machine); Rusty Redenbacher and more.
David Embry (production and vocals), Nicholas Gerlach (tenor saxophone and EWI) and Jeff Peterson (drums) are “suiting up” in 2015, and they can’t wait for you to join them!
