Counterpoint 2015 Must See Artist: Emancipator Ensemble
Now that this year’s lineup for Counterpoint Music and Arts Festival has finally dropped let’s take a closer look at the dope litany of artists making it down to Kingston Downs in 2015. Counterpoint has made a name for itself by attracting a beautifully diverse assembly of music lovers. Since it’s inception in 2012, Counterpoint has consistently crafted lineups that can satisfy lovers of indie rock, hip hop, electronic music and everything in between.
One of the names on this year’s playbill that really has me salivating is Emancipator Ensemble. Since his highly acclaimed album “Soon it will be Cold Enough” which premiered all the way back in 2006, Doug Appling a.k.a. Emancipator has been captivating his incredibly loyal fans with groundbreaking tracks that defy genre boundaries. The beauty of Emancipator’s music lies within the layers of soulful samples, hip hop influenced drumbeats and heat-warming synths that characterize his tunes. Emancipator is usually accompanied regularly by the immensely talented violinist, Ilya Goldberg, and when supplemented by the other various musicians that constitute the Emancipator Ensemble, the resulting performances have been breathtaking.
Emancipator truly has a special ability to create tunes that permeate a palpable sense of catharsis throughout a crowd. Since launching his own label Loci Records, Emancipator has been hard at work carving out quite a nice swath of electronic music real estate for himself. Check out his extensive and compelling Soundcloud for yourself and make sure you do not miss this guru of good vibes at Counterpoint 2015. Tickets are still on sale here!
