Counterpoint TOTD Silent Disco Edition: Skymatic – “Energy”
Diving deep within the world of electronic bass music, Atlanta-based duo Phil Ross and Hannah Wilder are putting a fresh and elegant twist on things by infusing heavy bass lines with sultry violin and hip-hop beats. The melodic, original sound of Skymatic first arose in early 2013, and has since embodied a soul that represents the diverse musical cultures and backgrounds of Atlanta, blending guitar, live violin and synth/piano for a refreshing take on traditional electronic hip-hop. Considering another magical year of Counterpoint Music and Arts Festival is almost here once again, it’s only fitting that we show some love to the locals that call Counterpoint’s hometown their hometown as well.
“Energy,” a track released by the violin-bass producing duo in July 2014 is an upbeat, hard-hitting number that presents an earth-rattling drop and a crunchy, whompy style that is chaotic yet composed, and there’s even some drum n’ bass layered into the track. There’s absolutely no doubt that “Energy” supplies enough high-intensity beats to keep the crowd pumped and headbanging all night long, with a certain thrashing effect that hooks those folks who love that heavy, screeching bass, such as myself.
Skymatic is anything but your conventional electronic two-some, and producer/guitarist Phil and violinist/vocalist Hannah have been blowing up and sharing their sound throughout their hometown, having performed at a multitude of well-known Atlanta venues and festivals including Terminal West, Sweetwater 420 Festival, and of course are preparing for their upcoming Silent Disco set at Atlanta’s own Counterpoint Music and Arts Festival. If you haven’t already purchased a ticket to Counterpoint 2015, don’t fret, there’s still time to redeem yourself and purchase a ticket at the festival’s official site here and you can check out more original tunes as well as remixes by Skymatic at their official Soundcloud here.
