At CRSSD Festival the Future Belongs to Women
CRSSD Festival has curated a lineup of time-tested headliners one could almost call classics on the electronic circuit. Sure, it’s a great festival for crossing must-sees off your list, but if you want to see what’s on the horizon, CRSSD has a message for you: the future belongs to women!
With acts ranging from teenage indie darling Billie Eilish, to Skrillex collaborator Heidi, and house luminary Lauren Lane, what the women of CRSSD have in common is that their stars are all rising. This makes the San Diego festival the perfect opportunity to sample the future of electronic music. Here is your Women of CRSSD cheatsheet:
British synthpop duo, AlunaGeorge knows how to please a crowd and get a party started. With Aluna Francis’ cockney R&B whispers and George Reid’s production and instrumentation, these are electronic tracks with Top-40 aspirations.
Austrian house duo, HVOB (Her Voice Over Boys) consists of Anna Müller and Paul Wallner. Their minimalist orchestrations, restrained beats, and heady melancholy achieve the rare balance that leaves you transfixed, dancing, chilled out, yet amped for more.
Lauren Lane has been blowing up festivals and dance floors for the past couple of years. Pulse Radio named her one of the “5 Breakout Stars of The BPM Festival 2016.” For a taste of what Lauren Lane is capable of, check out her 2015 Robot Heart set at Burning Man. It is everything.
Cassy has been turning up dancefloors since the 90s, but there is nothing dated about her sound. The Austrian producer has held prestigious residencies from Berlin to Ibiza, and continues to migrate, experiment, and grow. Her latest endeavors feature her funky house productions with her soulful voice layered in and the effect is mesmerizing.
Mija has been making waves since 2012, charting a meteoric rise through a bevvy of subgenres. While she resists categorization, fans of house, DNB, and trap should find themselves lured in and nudged blissfully to the edges of their comfort zones with Mija’s eclectic sets.
CRSSD takes place at San Diego’s Waterfront Park March 4-5, 2017.
