City Bisco TOTD: “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a”
The Disco Biscuits are well-known for their expertise in creating complex jam sessions with electronic elements to guide the audience towards an exploration of sound. It is through numerous hours of practice that a band is able to rearrange an original track for a fresh flavor. This version of “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a” is inverted, which means that the end of the song is played first, then it is followed by the beginning. By using this musical maneuver, The Disco Biscuits are able to surprise their fans while playing the tropical melody that we have already fallen in love with.
Since the track is titled “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a,” Hawaii’s state fish, a tropical island atmosphere lays the foundation for a light and happy melody with a touch of exoticism. The Disco Biscuits illustrate a tropical landscape with a superb showcase of livetronica. Lyrics narrate two birds’ aqueous adventure, and once the immensely fun chorus hits, you’re under The Disco Biscuits’ spell. Plus, let’s be honest, everyone loves to participate in a catchy chorus. The guitar and synths mimic ocean waves while the band’s sound carries us across an unknown terrain.
A piercing guitar melody leads us through uncharted waters until listeners discover the two birds that the track revolves around. These characters symbolize the free nature of artistic expression. The Disco Biscuits elaborate on this notion through their experimentation with the construction of “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a.” The soundboard captures the magic of witnessing The Disco Biscuits live, and the inverted version emphasizes the improvisational skill of the band working together as a single entity.
On August 18-20, The Disco Biscuits are returning to New York for this year’s City Bisco.
