Dugo Shares His Decade Long Album In The Making “Lingua Franca”
Takahiro Izutani is an innovative Japanese musician and composer whose career in music has taken him to some extraordinary places. Izutani has gained global recognition for his outstanding work as a co-composer for well-known video games like Bayonetta and Metal Gear Solid 4. Now the visionary musician is ready to share his greatest labor of love with the world. Under his alias Dugo, Izutani recently released his compelling new LP called Lingua Franca.
Lingua Franca is the culmination of Dugo’s grand vision of what an independent solo album can be. As Dugo, Izutani has been working on this album for over ten years. By bringing together an international assembly of artists — guitar players, violinists, photographers — Dugo has created a brilliant project with tons of depth.
The nine tracks all speak for themselves. The sonic beauty of each is rich and apparent. It’s clear how much energy and passion was poured into this well thought out album. While there is a certain sense of structure and form to this album, Lingua Franca almost feels like a combination of free form jazz and breakbeat electronica. It’s worth noting that the term “lingua franca” actually refers to the common language used amongst people who normally speak a wide array of languages. The lingua franca of a sport, profession or era of time, is meant to act as a binding agent for diverse people. It is clear what Dugo is trying to portray by choosing this title fro his album: music is the language of the world.
“Dugo is my life’s work. I think many of the people who purchased this album are video game music fans, and you can indeed find some affinity between my work for Dugo and my compositions for video games. I was always taking experimental approaches during the process of making Dugo’s songs, and then sophisticating, developing, and introducing them into video game work. Actually, you can explore the headstream of all of the video game music that I have ever made through this album. I think it is fantastic that Brave Wave is contributing to the video game music industry and supporting composers in such a way.”
