Electric Forest Music Festival: Contest Opportunities
Electric Forest Music Festival in Rothbury Michigan has a magical forest as well as the best artists in the music and arts scene, but if it only had a brain. Wait a minute. That is happening this year as well (see image below), which will officially bring the beautiful forest alive this June 27-30th. What could be cooler than that?
I’d say the only thing cooler than that are free tickets and it just so happens that Electric Forest has a bundle of those as well. It isn’t entirely free though: giving back through personal creation will be expected. Forest dwellers will have the chance to win ticket(s) through Electric Forest Music Festival’s notorious Plug-In program. This program is meant to fade the line that separates the staff from the campers, incorporating the community into a core and vital part of the festival’s experience. The fans aren’t just a crowd anymore…
These contests call on the musically and “physically” creative. The Plug In program offers opportunities for the physically creative such as the Timeline Photo contest, Electric Moment contest, Hoop Troupe competitions, and the Ultimate Camp contest. The Timeline Photo is a Facebook contest that looks for the best photo captured at Electric Forest. Ultimate Camp is a competition that demands campers to grab their festival family and dress up in a theme-like fashion. The winners will receive a huge chunk of prime Electric Forest real estate for the weekend. The Hoop Troupe is a group sponsored by Electric to perform during the festival. Competition is fierce so make sure to be extra creative. The Electric Moment calls for the tech savvy to put together a cool visual representation of their own “Electric Moment” for others to experience. The winner of this will receive tickets to the Good Life Village.
For the musically creative there is the Beats Antique Marching Band competition and the Instrumental Forester contest. Both of these will be a video of a musician’s best work. Needless to say for every video, rule number one is to make it awesome: be weird, be funny, be different. Play well and you could find yourself in a marching band or on stage in Sherwood Forest. Need a better idea of what to do? Checkout Beats Antique’s video of the contest and pay attention to their suggestions!
If you find yourself neither physically nor musically creative don’t freak out. There are prizes for congeniality as well! Electric Forest Music Festival has a King and Queen of the forest but they change every year. The Forest has spoken and the King and Queen this year are Jill and Ryan. In order to become a King or Queen of the Forest one must complete multiple challenges found online and then compete against other entries in the contest. The winner will be chosen by the votes of the people.
There are other ways to get involved with Electric Forest as well. They have a Chari-T contest that is a competition between non-profits to get the most votes in order to be a beneficiary of the profits from the sales of their T-Shirt Design Contest, which Electric Forest also rewards, and if you are one of those voters you are eligible to win a ticket via random selection. So simply put the crew at Electric Forest made a contest from a contest that will profit money for charity. Literally everyone wins. Don’t forget about the Einstein Thought Cloud either. This will give festival attendees an opportunity to become interactive with the forest who make a design out of recycled materials to be put in front of multiple projection maps. Simply put, make a cool shape and you will see a cool design.
In other news about the Electric the Good Life VIP is almost entirely sold out so if you are looking to treat yourself you better get on the ball. Also checkout their Electricology Program to see how your green habits at the festival can score you a chance to win signed merchandise, tickets, and vendor prizes.
Well after all this talk about winning a free ride with all of these contests, or “hippy scholarships,” how about a motivational recap video of last years experience at Electric Forest here.
