Electric Forest Mass Gathering Permit is a Go
Electric Forest was approved a mass gathering permit in a 3-2 vote for 2015 at the Grant Township Board meeting on November 10th according to the Oceana County Press. After the scares of changing ownership over to SFX, and Double JJ Ranch changing ownership, forest goers can finally plan their 2015 EF experience.
The festival brings in about ten times (34,000 last year) the amount of residents that live in the Grant township. This is enough to raise concern, but it’s nothing new as the board has voted on this mass gathering permit many years over since the beginning of Rothbury in 2008.
The most widespread complaints about music festivals are the drugs and culture that surrounds it. However in the scheme of things, out of the more than 30,000 people at the festival, only 16 people were put in jail, 31 placed under arrest after review, 12 misdemeanor charges, and 36 felony drug charges over the course of the entire weekend according to the Oceana County Prosecutors Office. To put that in perspective less than one tenth of a percent needed to be dealt with by police officers.
Forest dwellers need to continue to keep these numbers low and respect the environment that Double JJ ranch allows us to inhabit during the festival.
With that said, festival goers can start saving their nickels and dimes for their early bird passes which usually drop around the new year. Last year’s sales were later than most because of some, what seemed to be, potential red tape. So be aware of the early bird this year because a festival that has this extravagant of a production will sell out and it will be pricey, but if you’ve been to Electric Forest before then you know it’s worth it. You can get your early bird tickets on their site here, note it wont be for another month or so, but be ready anyway!
