Electric Forest TOTD: Gramatik “Bring It Up” (Street Bangers 5)

Just a few days following the release of the staggering 2019 lineup including SCI (three incidents), Bassnectar, Kygo, Zeds Dead and more, Electric Forest is sold-out. This comes as no surprise, considering the recent alteration of consolidating from a two-weekend event to one epic four-day festival with all of the bells and whistles as before. Taking place yet again in Rothbury, MI (June 27-30), Forest is already yet again a force to be reckoned with among the mass of music festivals upon us in the returning season.
Gramatik has certainly shared some special moments serenading Forest-goers over the years, so it’s only right that we shine light on some freshly-dropped tunes from his newest album, SB5 (Street Bangers 5). A compilation of hypnotizing melodies, Gramatik delves deep into his signature sound within each and every song in this masterpiece – yet one production in particular has us shook.
With just the right amount of swing, funk, jazz and soul,“Bring It Up” showcases the uncanny ability of this Slovenia-born musician to majestically merge a variety of vintage styles into one cohesive creation. Raspy vocal samples compliment a funky horn section, which are then accompanied by energetic drums and blanketed by an upbeat tonality – wielding a positively infectious track from every angle. Other notable songs from SB5 include the intro track, “No Place Like NYC”, which is a groovy banger that pays homage to Gramatik’s current home, and “Just Imagine” w/ Adam Deitch, an ultra-smooth piece with a west-coast LoFi hip-hop feel. There’s even a live rendition of crowd favorite “Muy Tranquilo” that was performed for the first time in Paris, France, with Anomalie and Adam Stehr.
You can catch Gramatik along with a slew of other superstars at Electric Forest 2019 – that is, if you snagged a weekend pass before they sold out. Stay in-the-know via Forest’s Facebook and Twitter for more information regarding ticket and festival info. Catch you on the flip side, #ForestFam!
