Envision a Gathering of the Future with Envision Festival
It’s almost Christmas and whether you’re freezing your toes off in the frigid cold or relaxing under the sun on a soft-sanded beach, a great treat for yourself or for a friend is the gift of Envision Festival. If you haven’t heard of this tropical, community-centered, forward-thinking gathering, then we can only assume that you’ve been hibernating. Envision is a festival located in Costa Rica; Uvita to be exact. For the fourth year in a row, Envision will be held on Rancho La Merced where both the rain forests and beaches collide. There is an unlimited amount of things to see, do, eat, and explore in Costa Rica, and none of it will be like anything you’ve experienced before. The locals on and off the festival grounds are kind, welcoming, and helpful. Don’t be afraid to ask for directions, recommendations, or just engage in conversation. Getting to know the locals and their culture is a great experience and will bring more authenticity to your travels.
Something that really stands out about Envision is their constant contributions to the local community. Since 2011 they have donated to Asada de Uvita, Fuerza Publica, and Flor de Bahia School. They have also founded the Uvita Youth Center, planted gardens, and fruit trees at local schools and youth centers, mentored the children of Florjando Alas, and donated money to purchase materials to extend the sidewalk in Uvita. Many festivals don’t contribute to the well-being of their surrounding community as thoroughly as Envision and their actions should only further exemplify why they should be supported as a festival. The 8 Pillars of Envision Festival are as follows: Permaculture, Spirituality, Movement, Art, Music, Community, Health, and Eco Building. Not only do they do their best to support their community, but they also create a conscious and responsible community within the festival. They highly recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle, plates, and utensils since they do not provide one-time use products. If you do not bring your own then you can always stop by their merch stand and purchase your own reusable products. There are also dish washing stations provided so that you are able to use so that you can clean your dishes after each use. It’s also a great idea to familiarize yourself with their sorting guidelines when it comes to disposing of your waste so you are aware of what needs to be recycled, composted, or put in landfill.
As expected, Envision doesn’t skimp on their music lineup. However, music isn’t their only offering for entertainment. They also have a high-caliber lineup of yoga and movement instructors, spoken workshops, and performance artists. The good people at Envision strive to make their gathering about more than just music, but best believe, when the music is poppin’, it is POPPIN’. This year, headliners include Opiuo, Autograf, Rising Appalachia, Pantyraid, Ott., Random Rab, The Funk Hunters, Clozee, and tons more. There’s nothing quite like dancing barefoot in a tropical paradise while you’re sipping on a freshly cut coconut with monkeys swinging in the trees above you. There are so many larger-than-life experiences to be had at Envision, you will wonder why you had never thought to attend before.
Don’t forget, if you want to hang around Costa Rica for some time before or after the festival, Envision offers retreats and tours that range in length and subjects. Offered is a community retreat, pre and post-festival tours, yoga retreats, and herbal medicine clinics. Pick one of your liking and you won’t be disappointed. Believe us, once you step foot on Costa Rican land, you won’t want to return home right after the festival. There is too much beauty to witness to only be in the area for less than a week. If the monkeys, birds, warm water, towering green trees, and kind community doesn’t make you want to stay longer, then the sloths will. Yes; cute, slow, wonderful sloths.
With Envision slightly more than 2 months away, it is time that you bite the bullet, purchase that plane ticket, purchase your festival ticket, and prepare for the Central American adventure of a lifetime. Each year gets better and better with the family at Envision constantly stepping up their game to provide their audience with the best experience possible. Close your eyes, picture yourself lounging in a hammock under the shade of a tree while the warm ocean waves crash against the shore. You can hear laughter, music, and all thoughts of sadness and anxiety leave your mind. Costa Rica is one of the most diverse and beautiful places in the world, how could you ever turn down an opportunity to visit this magical place? If you are heading down south, be sure to check out their Thrive Guide which offers a great amount of information about the festival, the area, travel, packing, money, shuttles, camping, and more. Come as prepared as possible but don’t forget to enjoy the spontaneous moments of magic that await. February will be here in the blink of an eye; we can’t wait to see you there!
