EQUIFUNK ANNOUNCES 2013 LINEUP
After several weeks of teasing, Equifunk finally released their initial 2013 lineup during their Leprechaun’s Ball this past weekend. The announcement will not fail to please lovers of the funk, with two sets of music from The New Mastersounds and two sets from The Motet (one being a Parliament Funkadelic Tribute set). Additional bands on the bill include Marco Benevento and The Main Squeeze (both returning after stellar performances at the festival last summer), as well as BoomBox, Anders Osborne, The Nigel Hall Band, and I’ll Be John Brown. Other bands, including a headliner, are yet to be announced. Regardless, the festival is already set to bring the funk to Camp Equinunk in Equinunk, PA in what will be its sixth year.
For those new to the Equifunk experience, this festival is unlike any other you will ever encounter. In 2012, the 700 or so people in attendance got their groove on to horn-filled New Orleans funk group Galactic with guest vocalist Corey Glover from Living Colour and the rarely touring jamtronic “super group” SuckerPunch (featuring Mike Greenfield of Lotus, Aron Magner and Marc Brownstein of The Disco Biscuits, and Jamie Shields of The New Deal) who headlined the weekend. Other acts included Zeppelin cover band Bustle In Your Hedgerow (featuring Marco Benevento), Orgone, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstafunk, and The Main Squeeze. With all meals included, unlimited beer and coconut water, a swimming pool with a water slide, friendly sports competitions throughout the weekend, cabins equipped with showers, electricity, and fans, and camping on the soccer field right in front of the main stage, there is something for everyone at this uniquely intimate, one-of-a-kind music festival. It literally feels like you have transported back to that sleep-away camp you went to when you were thirteen years old – it is an adult escape into a summer wonderland. I can promise you from personal experience that you will never experience anything like this festival. The level of musicianship, the grassroots nature of the event, the activities, the lodging, the camping, the food – from the second you get there you have not a care in the world, and for that weekend your inner child is once again free to experience the panoply of magical moments created in this mountain paradise in the Pocono Mountains.
Keep your eyes peeled for additional lineup announcements on Equifunk’s facebook page as well as their website. Cabins and camping tickets are available currently for $150 (for general admission camping) to $3540 (for tickets and a full cabin for twelve people). Ticket options and current pricing (which will continue to rise as the date of the event approaches) can be found here.
