Equifunk Announces JJ Grey & Mofro, Keller Williams And More Added To 2013 Lineup
Keep ‘em coming, Equifunk! Some more funky additions to an already stellar lineup. If you’ve ever attended Equifunk, you know the actual lineup hardly compares to the overall experience of spending a stress-free weekend at a beautiful summer camp, partying with all your friends and staying in a convenient (not to mention CLEAN—not your typical festival!) bunk, all while being provided with unlimited beer, water and food. However, the heights this lineup has reached in recent years certainly does not hurt. What began as a bachelor party and subsequent annual weekend getaway amongst friends has since evolved into a festival acquiring acts as big as Galactic and members of the Disco Biscuits. While we’re still being kept in agonizing anticipation of this year’s headliner, who is sure to be epic, here are the most recent additions to the Equifunk 2013 lineup.
Even the last act on the bill comes from a serious musical background. I’m talking about Duane Trucks with King Lincoln, a small soft rock band based out of Atlanta. Duane is the younger brother of Derek Trucks (Allman Brothers/Derek Trucks Band/Tedeschi Trucks Band) and the nephew of Butch Trucks, a founding member of The Allman Brothers. These guys have a nice, smooth, bluesy yet rock ‘n’ roll sound, and I’d like to see where they go from here!
Next up is Monophonics, a psychedelic soul and funk band from San Francisco. Between their genre and hippie-inspired logo, you just KNOW these guys have got to be tons of fun—nay, groovy. I can totally see everyone getting down hard to this late night.
My personal favorite new addition is JJ Grey & Mofro, a funky bunch with a toned-down bluesy, slow-jam vibe. They’ve played a number of acclaimed festivals including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Wakarusa, and will be a welcome addition to the Equifunk family.
Finally, perhaps most notably, Keller Williams will be adding a bluegrass/folk flavor to the mix. This guy is crazy talented, playing multiple instruments in one show, including an 8-string guitar, and looping them all together to create the layered sound of a full-blown band. Very impressive, especially for a guy who refuses to wear shoes when he performs (he’ll fit in well at camp!).
Existing artists on the 2013 bill include The New Mastersounds, BoomBox, Anders Osborne, Nigel Hall Band, and returning veterans of the funk Marco Benevento, The Main Squeeze and I’ll Be John Brown. It’s guaranteed to be a rockin’, funky time, and I can’t wait to get down at Camp Equinunk in the Poconos August 16-18, 2013. Get your ticket now before it’s too late!
