Escape the Cold and Get Some Aura
Aura Music Festival is where I want to be over my spring break this March 9th, 10th and 11th. Typically the Ultra Music Festival is where students, including myself, flock for a few days of music, fun and sun. Little has changed this year– well, other than the Ultra line up. In the past, Ultra has included a few electronic jambands to cater to people like me, who can deal with the constant UNTZ of the rest of the line up. With acts like the Disco Biscuits, STS9 and Lotus, past years have been great, so long as you avoided the herds of bros and candy kids stampeding through the tiny park where Ultra is held. As Ultra moves more towards a purely house and brostep line up, the Aura Music Festival has changed its date and put together a stellar lineup that has persuaded me to avoid a ridiculously expensive spring break involving Ultra, and instead head to St. Cloud, Florida, for the Aura Music Festival.
The line up for Aura this year is killer to say the least. With two sets from Papadosio, Brothers Past, DrFameus The Heavy Pets and Kung Fu, I’m not sure how I can justify missing this event. All these acts are at the top of my list to see at every festival I attend, and the fact that they are all together in one place is enough for me to want to start packing right now. As if that weren’t enough, Zoogma, Dopapod, and Sonic Spank are all sets I will surely not be missing my first time at Aura. It really is as if the guys putting together this festival read my mind and got together my favorite bands. There are tons of other acts that I don’t know as well, but I’m sure after that weekend in March we will be much better acquainted.
Only a short drive from downtown Orlando, Aura is easy to get to by air or land. Held March 9th, 10th and 11th and with tickets at only $90, how can I say no to what looks to be an awesome weekend of music and art? There will even be Yoga workshops on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival if I choose to get my Zen on. Spring break for festival-goers can finally be done at a reasonable price. For anyone with a spring break during this time, I don’t know how you can say no to what looks to be an awesome time.
