Escort Hits It Hard In Brooklyn – Get Ready The Big Up You’re Next!
Big hair, flowing paints and aptly dressed ensablbe, Escort hit the stage. Before being announced as one of the Big Up Music and Arts Festival headliners, I had never even heard of them before. My friends told me I was crazy and that I need to break out of the strangle hold that electronica has over my taste in music and after seeing Escort I agree. In the days and weeks before Escort got on stage at the Music Hall of Williamsburg I listened, I researched, and (to my pleasant surprise) enjoyed. It takes a lot to get me excited about a band before my first time seeing them, it takes even more to get me just as excited (if not more so) to see them for the second time; Escort managed to do both.
Everything about their demeanor and tone was just right. Adeline Michèle, who is certainly the star of the ensemble, had the 70’s down pat, as if she just walked out of Studio 54. She oozed diva. Confident, beautiful under the lights of the stage and sexy to the umpteenth degree. Everyone on stage looked like they were having and amazing time which any live music addict will tell you brings any performance to new heights.
Escort is advertised as a real live disco experience. The guitarist Dan Balis really gave us a taste of what he could do with a solo that made me stop and say, “Damn that’s awesome!”
Highlights of the show included the crowd favorite “Cocaine Blues” and “Starlight,” my personal favorite. Over all there were few flaws, almost no flubs, and lots of high points. Its hard to find bands that perform like that and really what more could you ask for from a performance of any band?
For anyone attending the Big Up you’re in for a treat!
