Euphoria Artist Spotlight: BoomBox

In less than three weeks, Carsons Creek Ranch in Austin, TX will be hopping with music, art, and a ton of dancing fools. Euphoria Music and Camping Festival has a sick lineup this year, and one of the groups I’m most excited about seeing is BoomBox. Consisting of songwriter Zion Godchaux on guitar/vocals, and DJ Russ Randolph on the sequencers and turn-tables, these dudes know how to jam. Refusing to be categorized as anything other than rock & roll, and rightfully so, since they do defy genres. These two have an incredibly unique sound. Grooving from note to note, they might not sound like rock & roll at first, but let them get going and you’ll understand. Their funky fresh style comes as a relief in this industry, where many artists are beginning to all sound the same.

The two have played many festivals and venues before, some of the bigger ones being Wakarusa, Rothbury Music Festival, Electric Forest, Summer Camp Music Festival, Mile High Music Festival, Hoxeyville Music Festival, Camp Bisco, IMPULSE Music & Arts Festival, Bele Chere, Wanee, Bounce and Hangout Music Festival. Their groovy presence will be greatly appreciated at Euphoria this year!

Their newest album Filling In The Color, which was just released in January of this year, has received stellar reviews from fans and critics alike. Luckily for all Euphoria attendees, I have no doubt they will be mixing in some of this new music during their set this year – I cant wait! Something interesting about this album is that it was funded by Kickstarter, with an original goal of $15,000. Raising a total of $16,355 on the end date of January 2nd 2014, the duo easily earned what they needed to successfully finish the album. I find it interesting and inspiring that artists are able to successfully crowd-fund their projects these days. Just 10 years ago something like this would’ve been incredibly difficult and most likely not very successful. I look forward to future musical endeavors made possible by crowd-funding!

All in all I’m incredibly stoked to see BoomBox perform at Euphoria this year!
