EVOLVEFEST: A Homophobic and Anti-Semitic Transformational Festival

Every so often you encounter something so ridiculous that it makes you stop and assess what you are doing. As consumers we all have that moment where we weigh the value of a product to our lives against the harm done by the company or organization producing that product. It was late last night that I was faced with this very issue. It was brought to my attention that a music festival, a supposed center for acceptance, togetherness and love was engaged in wholesale hate speech on a massive scale. I was shocked after seeing the extent of the postings, but is it really that shocking? Just because an organization labels themselves a music festival and just because they claim to be a “provide a safe, healing and spiritually-informed gathering place”  doesn’t mean they are. I and hopefully, everyone else will hold them to the same standards of every other company you encounter. I certainly don’t shop at Hobby Lobby, or eat at Chick-fil-A and the statements this festival has been espousing are so much worse, so much more hateful, and truthfully so much more offensive. You decide for yourself:

New Age spiritualism and alternative medicinal practices have long gone hand in hand with the festival scene, but one so-called transformational festival has taken certain tenets of that ethos in a decidedly hateful direction. Evolvefest, a festival in Pennsylvania now in its 9th year has turned its Facebook page into a medium for spreading homophobic and antisemitic propaganda. Beyond the borderline conspiracy and anti-establishment rhetoric railing against the dangers of patriotism and the Illuminati bankers, the festival has now taken to using vitriolic language and inferences towards Jews and LGBT individuals.

[box]The next move of the Radical Gay Mainstream Media Zionist-run Agenda is to “normalize” Pedophilia- now that anyone who dissents from agreeing with the “kosherness” of Homosexuality is immediately crucified.[/box]

The individual maintaining the festival’s page, which boasts over 217,000 followers, has promulgated such views that all gay men are devious over serialized individuals ravaged by AIDS, and equated homosexuality with pedophilia. Not only that, but Evolvefest seems to blame the Jews for everything…

The pages views on transgender people seems to be outside the bounds of decency and civility and has set off somewhat of a firestorm in the comments section. Although, not everyone’s voice has been heard the page does seem to heavily censors its comments sections.

According to the festival’s website:

Evolvefest is the primary annual fundraiser for a non-profit, non-denominational organization, Fellowship of the Beloved.   The specific purposes for which this  Fellowship is organized is to provide a safe, healing and spiritually-informed gathering place for individuals of like-mind to assemble for the purpose of fellowship, learning, healing, sharing and outreach to the needs of our community.Fellowship of the Beloved exists to help co-create a global culture marked by kindness, nurture, respectfulness, co-creation and life-affirming actions.  The primary spiritual teaching of the Fellowship of the Beloved is that The Beloved manifests in our midst through the Practice and Power of Love.

Based on a sampling of posts, however, nothing seems farther from the truth. These are just a few examples of the reprehensible views expressed by the festival’s page.

It’s sad that this festival purports to be a safe place where people can come together for spiritual alignment. Instead it spews thinly veiled and outright hate and fear mongering reminiscent of a man in a tinfoil hat preaching in the subway station. EvolveFest, when you are finally ready to evolve and have a real discussion about these or any other  issues, that people can surely validly disagree on, I will be here waiting to parse the issues with Sensible Reason.

This is a post from the owner who runs the festivals Facebook page.

UPDATE: It looks as though the owner and proprietor of EVOLVEFEST has responded with a halfhearted “apology” for offending people.
