What to Expect at Symbiosis Gathering 2016
In just a few months it will be time for Symbiosis Gathering: Family Tree at Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale, California. From September 22nd through the 25th the Symbiosis family will be giving us another year of epic experiences and a great way for some to close out their festival season. Today is the very last day for Early Bird tickets so it is highly suggested that you buy your tickets today before the price goes up. Don’t wait, don’t procrastinate; if you know that Symbiosis is an event that you want to be at then pick up those tickets today. If you’re still pondering over that purchase and want to know a little bit more about what is in store, check out the list below.
Walking. Lots of it.
Symbiosis is a large gathering. With multiple stages, workshop zones, the reservoir, and other hubs and environments, walking is something you will have to quickly get used to. Pedicabs are available if you would like to purchase a ride from one point to another, but the majority of your time at Symbiosis will most likely be spent walking. The best time to drop some cash on a pedicab might be when you’re trying to unload your camping gear from your car to your camping spot; that is, if you don’t have a car camping pass. Yes, you’ll get dusty. Yes, it can get hot. Look on the bright side though, you will totally strengthen those leg muscles and maybe even tone your booty. Another thing about strong legs: more stamina for dancing all night.
Swimming and other maritime shenanigans.
Slap on the sunscreen and buy that swimsuit you’ve been eyeing. Swimming in the reservoir is a great way to cool off during the day when you’re feeling too tired to do anything else. Sometimes the boost you need is just drifting on a floatie while one of your favorite musicians plays some tunes in the background. Don’t forget your shade and sunglasses though. It is easy jump in the water and forget about the afternoon glare so bringing something like a parasol or a shawl and your favorite pair of sunnies will help your skin and eyes stay protected. Last year, those who were hanging out on the reservoir at just the right time caught a glimpse of DeLorean skimming the top of the water. Does that sound like something you want to miss? Didn’t think so.

Music you’ve never heard before.
From bass, to techno, to global bass, to trance, to funk, to singer-songwriters, Symbiosis has it all. It can get slightly boring, even annoying, when summertime comes around and every festival you had planned on going to presents a similar lineup to the other, but it isn’t like that at Symbiosis. Last year, Nicolas Jaar was a headliner as well as CocoRosie and Tipper. Those three artists attracted an eclectic audience and certainly no other festival had offered a lineup quite like that. This year we can look forward to FKA Twigs, Gramatik, RL Grime, Santigold, Ta-Ku, Warpaint, and a slew of other artists. Seriously, Symbiosis kills it every time.
An array of environments.
Most festivals offer some kind of yoga space, a space or two for some workshops, and of course the main stages where music is played. Symbiosis amplifies that times a thousand. You may not be able to hit all of the spaces that you planned on during your time at Symbiosis, but that’s OK. There are so many places to spend your time at this gathering that you’ll often stumble upon an environment that you hadn’t even noticed before. If you’re looking for a place to have tea, to take an afternoon nap, to trade some of your personal items for something new, peruse some art, get a massage, or learn how to live a more sustainable life, Symbiosis has got you covered. The opportunities are endless and you never know what you’ll learn, who you’ll meet, or what you’ll see.

A high caliber of live performers.
Just like the musical lineup, the performers at Symbiosis are top-notch. Be sure to catch acts from performers like Fou Fou Ha, Lucent Dossier Experience, Pyronauts, Vau de Vire Society, and more when they grace the stages of Symbiosis. You’ll see performances like you’ve never seen before and you might be inspired to take up a new practice like aerial or fire dancing. This festival holds an incredible amount of space for people to share their unique skills with the world and when others are able to be their authentic selves in such a large space, magic happens. Experience the magic for yourself and you’ll understand why so many flock to Symbiosis.
Art in multiple forms.
The stages at Symbiosis are art. The art boats at Symbiosis are art. The amount of detail that teams of people put into the land around the reservoir is art. The placement and mapping of the whole festival is an art. The curation of musicians and performers is art. The decor and art installations are art. Everything about Symbiosis can be considered art as the teams who help create this otherworldly gathering for us put incredible amounts of time, energy, and love into one of our favorite gatherings of the year. Creating a festival is hard work and it is even harder to keep that festival going for years while securing a steady attendance. If you head to Symbiosis this fall then it will be easy to appreciate all of the hard work put forth by the tons of people when you simply glance across the land.

The experiences within this gathering are endless but forgive us, we weren’t able to jot all of them down here for you today.
