F.A.R.M. Fest Artist Spotlight: Thriftworks
F.A.R.M. (Future of Artistic & Revolutionary Minds) Fest Music & Arts Festival is only 10 days away, and the Sensible Reason team couldn’t be more thrilled to be covering three days of forward-thinking workshops, breathtaking art, and genre-spanning musical performances. Papadosio and EOTO will headline an impressive lineup boasting the likes of Phutureprimitve, Bluetech, Cosby Sweater, Random Rab, Twiddle and two sets of Liquid Stranger. This temporary city of transformational culture is one of the only of its kind in the tri-state area.
In addition, West coast native Jake Atlas, aka Thriftworks, will be bringing his dark sonic worlds to northern New Jersey. Reaching deep into the obscure energy of the Bay area experimental hip-hop sound, Thriftworks finds an addictive balance between complex sound design and rich atmosphere.
With three full length releases packed with high quality material in only a few short years, Thriftworks has established himself as a notable influence in modern and experimental electronic music. His seasoned approach invokes lush, hypnotic, and endlessly original soundscapes that magnetically imprint themselves onto the human eardrum. Modern influence from downtempo, dub, and hip-hop goes hand in hand with Thriftworks’ amorphous and brilliantly unique aesthetic.
Listening to Thriftworks is often a cinematic experience, complete with unintelligible messages from extraterrestrial beings and a sense of meticulously constructed physical space. As the layers of thick, oozing bass drive the intricate percussion, beautiful harmony and mysterious ambiance emerge. Thriftworks’ never-ending repertoire of delectable compositions has helped him develop and deliver the kind of fully formed vision that experienced musicians often never accomplish. You can delve right into Atlas’ world and stream most of his releases for free at the Thriftworks Bandcamp. Thriftworks was also recently featured on Russ Liquid’s new album In Love on the track “Acid for Wagner.” Check it out below, and snag a free download.
