Ferguson Protesters in NYC Plan to #StopTheParade
Activists in NYC have took to social media to encourage protesters to interrupt the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Using the hash tag #StopTheParade the plan is to urge activist to intercept the parade to bring the national spotlight to the perceived injustice over the grand jury’s decision in the Mike Brown case to indite Officer Darren Wilson over the unarmed teen’s shooting death. It is unclear how many of the hardcore activists protesting the decision in Ferguson are a part of the campaign, but in just a few hours there are already hundred of tweets bearing the #StopTheParage hash tag as well as a handy info graphic instructing would-be protesters on how to make this bold move happen. Already the hash tag has gained significant attention from a number of accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers retweeting some of the online agitators.
It will be interesting to see whether the protesters will be successful tomorrow at one of the most heavily guarded events that takes place under the protection of the NYPD. Surely, unlike the protests that have gone on the past few nights in NYC relatively unimpeded by the NYPD, any attempt to prevent the parade from moving smoothly along its planned route will be met with a swift response from the NYPD.
