Why the Forest? Edition 5/9 – The Coloring Book
A festival’s merchandise can be a talking piece for fellow festival-goers all over the world. Anyone who has attended a festival has made a friend from recognizing t-shirts or wristbands later that year. However, T-shirts and wristbands only go so far. Electric Forest brings its attendees into every aspect of the festival and promises to benefit those outside of Sherwood Forest. This week is the 5th edition of Why the Forest? and it tells the story of the Electric Forest Coloring Book.
From March 23rd until April 30th, artists and Forest lovers sent in their artwork to be featured in the Electric Forest Coloring Book. Coloring book pages, comics, poems, and other printable arts were all accepted as an addition to the finished book. Sold as merchandise at the festival, these coloring books are unique to the festival and those who attend. Artists channeled the Forest as they brought their creative juices to the table. Pieces are judged based on art, interactivity, overall aesthetic, and compatibility with the book’s format. Those selected received a placement of their art in the book, printed credit placed within the art, and a copy of the book to keep.
The reach of the Electric Forest Coloring Book goes farther than art. Coloring is a mindful activity from which adults and children can benefit. In addition, the profits of the Coloring Book will go to the Music in Schools Program. The Program helps keep music programs in schools that need them most. Music benefits everyone, which is why festivals like Electric Forest are so beautiful. With this Coloring Book and the purchase of it, Foresters are helping to create more musicians that keep festivals alive.
