Why the Forest? Vol. 1/9 – Art Installation Sponsorship
Electric Forest is one of the biggest music festivals in the United States. It has grown exponentially, now spanning two weekends in Rothbury, Michigan. But, what exactly makes the festival so special? Sure, we can talk about the lineup until we’re blue in the face, but the music is only a fraction of what the Forest has to offer. Electric Forest is about art, expression, acceptance, understanding, and togetherness. Each festival has something unique to offer. So, we’re kicking off a bi-weekly series to explore what the festival brings beyond the lineup. This week, we’re exploring the Art Installation Sponsorship Program.
Electric Forest is covered in art. Sherwood Forest and beyond become a canvas for talented artists of all kinds. From the campground to the stages, tons of artists are involved in making the festival beautiful. The Art Installation Sponsorship Program gives talented artists and visionaries the chance to have their Electric Forest inspired pieces at the festival, with the money to pay for it. Some of our favorite interactive installations were past winners of this program.
Among previous winners:
The Night Lily
The Pisces Pool
Fairies in the Forest
How it works:
Hopefuls submit their ideas to Electric Forest HQ. Selections are judged based on art, appropriateness for the event, ease of execution on-site, and interactivity. Those chosen for the program will get up to $5,000 to make their vision a reality at this year’s Forest. Installations of all sizes are encouraged. Artists also receive working credentials for their build team (up to 5), ample time to work on their projects before the festival opens, meals on build days, and tons more. Submissions are open now and closing March 1, 2018. Final projects will be selected and announced on April 21, 2018. A lot of festivals have art submissions, but only Electric Forest has art inspired by the magic of this event. We can’t wait to see what talent is in store for #EF2018.
