Journey Beyond: Fractal Forest & The Village Turn Fantasy Into Reality
Shambhala’s six stages continue to reveal their lineups for the festival’s 20th anniversary. On Monday The Pagoda kicked things off by announcing a stacked roster to go with a new stage design. Fractal Forest is the white-hot epicenter of Shambhala and The Village is the festival’s enigmatic bass heavy oasis. Fractal Forest is a swirling vortex of colors, textures, and light, while The Village feels like a lost city of bass sequestered deep within the British Columbian wild.
The artists selected to perform at the Fractal Forest always seem to perfectly mirror the stage’s visual spectacle, and The Village always attracts the biggest names in drum & bass dubstep. Groovy, psychedelic vibes will collide with adrenaline-fueled madness as these two stages announce their rosters for Shambhala’s 20th anniversary.
Sporting the tagline “100 percent gluten-free lineup,” the Fractal Forest is playing no games this year. A collection of some of the world’s best turntablists like Dj Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak, Krafty Kuts + Dynamite MC, A.Skillz, and Skratch Bastid will be ripping it up this August. Funk warriors like Beat Fatigue, Defunk, Stickybuds, and Father Funk will all be in attendance as well. Notable Fractal Forest vets like Rich-E-Rich and The Funk Hunters will be putting their stamp on affairs and budding tastemaker, Opiuo, returns for another can’t-miss performance this summer.
After the huge names that The Pagoda unleashed on Monday,The Fractal Forest has brought in some choice selections of its own. Fractal Forest is a place where fantasy seems to bleed into reality, and this lineup is the perfect soundtrack for that. No matter what happens, you can be sure that the sights and sounds of the Fractal Forest will turn your head inside out.
Famous for their ability to attract the best talent in the world of bass music, The Village has once again outdone themselves. Hitting the infamous stage this year will be heavy hitters like Nightmre, Terravita, Haywire, Kill The Noise, Delta Heavy and Crizzly. Shambhala favorite Stylust Beats will be in attendance with innovators Pendulum, Datsik and Excision also on the roster. I am definitely looking forward to the performances of Calyx & Teebee as well as Funk Hunters with Chali Tuna.
Shambhala will be celebrating a huge milestone this year. With the festival’s 20th anniversary upon us, this August’s event is set to be historic. Taking place from August 11-14 at the gorgeous Salmo River Ranch, Shambhala is a pilgrimage that all dance music lovers should make. Keep it locked all week as we review Shambhala’s lineup stage by stage. Tomorrow, the bass behemoths over at The Village will unleash their arsenal.
