Free Music Friday – North Coast Edition
North Coast Music Festival is heading into its 5th year! Union Park will be filled with eager music lovers from Chicago and beyond this weekend, and this anniversary they’re pulling out all the stops. Each year, the festival has a wide variety of musicians, and this year seems to be the most diverse yet. This week’s edition of Free Music Friday promises to be almost as diverse as the overall lineup.
Slightly Stoopid has been making the best roots rock reggae for years. These California rockers are a team of amazing musicians, and everyone brings something special to the table. With sounds ranging from folk to reggae to hip-hop, this versatile and talented group never disappoints. They play the 312 Stage at 6:45PM on Sunday. Don’t miss these guys and snag a free download of their 2014 Sampler here. Stream Top of the World below.
Keys N Krates don’t fool around. They mix the best that trap has to offer with the finesse of a dancer. These guys will have Chicago bouncing and womping even after their set has ended. These Toronto natives have bass oozing from their sleeves, and the beats never stop spinning. Check them out at the 847 Stage at 6PM on Friday, and grab a free download from their Facebook here. Stream “Dum Dee Dum” below.
Manic Focus has been rapidly rising through the electronic music scene. Hailing from the twin cities, where they adore anything local, his distinct style has been making the midwest bounce. Migrating south for the festival, he is bound to tear it up one of the North Coast Official after parties at Concord Music Hall on Sunday with The Floozies. Check out ALL his music for free download here. Stream “On the Horizon” below.
Ookay may have a strange name and an off the wall Twitter page, but don’t let the bandana fool you. Coming to the midwest from the west coast, this young DJ has a lot to offer. His swift climb up the electronic music ladder is still on, and he’s letting everyone know about it. Like his Facebook page for access to free downloads. Ookay plays the 847 Stage at 6:15PM Sunday, so don’t miss out! Stream “Ready 2 Rock” below.
STS9 are the ultimate fusion band of electronic and jam music. With veteran musicians who love what they do, these legends have a following that inarguably surpasses almost the entirety of the North Coast lineup. They know how to jam and there won’t be a still person in the crowd during their set. Their after party at the House of Blues has been long sold out, but check them out at the 773 Stage at 7:30PM on Saturday. They have graciously given fans the opportunity to download their Wakarusa set for free download for those who want to relive the experience. Stream their 2013 downloads below.
There you have it, folks, your dose of free music for the week. North Coast Music Festival will bring these as well as other huge acts to their 5th anniversary including Kid Cudi, Bassnectar, Dada Life, and Snoop Dogg. All of Chicago will be at this year’s festival, and Sensible Reason is excited to give you the rundown when it all goes down.
