GBA Short: The United Nations & TomorrowLand
An interesting video was recently circulated to the TomorrowLand family. It shows United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon giving what looks to be a press conference calling for the people of the world to mirror the values and ideas put forth by the people of TomorrowLand. The ideas of dignity, respect, diversity, and solidarity all reflect what TomorrowLand is all about, and Ban Ki-Moon is asking for the world to take a look at this fantastic festival, and take these core values to heart. He explains that the people of TomorrowLand have called on him to bring forth these ideas on behalf of the United Nations, and he has gratefully agreed. He says “Let’s work as one towards dignity for all, and let youth lead the way.” The video ends with a simple message, “We are one world.”
This is an amazing and rare thing, for politics and music to come together and attempt to push the beautiful ideas of togetherness and understanding. However, music festivals can be anything but productive at times, often leaving behind a slew of trash and exhausted people from partying for days on end. At the surface and while inside, yes, people are extremely accepting and loving, but to link together a party and political ideology…kinda weird. We see where this guy is coming from, but we wonder if he will be taken seriously in this case.
