GBA: Your News, From Paris Hilton to a Death Caused by Bieber
The Good: We’ll go ahead and start with the good news. Here are this week’s highlights.
Holy Ship 2017: Every festival lover (heck, every music lover out there) has heard of Holy Ship. A weekend venture like none other, attendees get the chance to party on a cruise ship, rubbing shoulders with their favorite artists in this non-stop boat party. One of the first and the most sought after cruise festival is doing something out of this world in 2017. HARD has announced a one-hour-only free ticket giveaway! Starting at noon the first day of Holy Ship 2016, those who haven’t been on the ship previously will finally have a chance to snag a ticket, which allows them the chance to buy tickets for the event for life. Rumors of extra ships have been floating around lately, this might be the start of something huge.
Paris Hilton: Midwestern festival go-ers across Wisconsin and Illinois have been furious over Paris Hilton. What did she do this time? She’s been announced on the Summerfest lineup. One of the longest and most intense festivals of its kind, Summerfest features hundreds of artists on over 10 stages spanning almost 2 weeks! Every bar in the area has shuttles to the festival and day passes are only around $20. Music lovers have created a petition that has booted her off of the lineup! Claiming she has “no right” to grace the stage, the petition started the day after the lineup was announced, succeeding earlier this week. Sorry, Paris.
Jon Stewart Returns: After announcing that he will be leaving The Daily Show, telling little of what he will do next, Jon Stewart has just announced a new show with none other than Steven Colbert. Giving the new Daily Show host, Trevor Noah a tip of his hat, Stewart and Colbert plan on combining their satirical genius to host a radio podcast each week. Hosted on Siruis XM and other satellite radio stations, the podcast will still contain news stories, but maintain a “morning radio show style.” Official release dates and special guests have not yet been released, but we’ll keep you informed as developments come through.
The Bad: Sometimes we forget how fragile our everyday lives can be. Here is the not-so-good news.
Apple Glitch: Several iPhone 6 users worldwide are up in arms about a glitch at Apple. Whether it came from an outside hack or an internal mistake, 50,000 iPhone users have had their entire systems wiped clean. Contacts, apps, everything. The company is currently backpedaling, as some users are asking for compensation for this mistake. Many companies and businesses rely on their phones and accounts for everything from customer relations to payment options at smaller businesses. While Apple probably has enough money to settle this problem without hurting the company, we’re sure a couple users are going to go back to their old Androids after this one.
Bieber Roast Tragedy: The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber aired earlier this week and social media was flooded with hilarious clips from the highly anticipated televised event. What didn’t catch the media’s attention was a Twitter feed from a young fan during the event. An 18 year old fan from Ohio Tweeted to Bieber during the event “I love you too much, please save me from myself @justinbieber.” The Tweets went unnoticed. The next Tweet from the fan read “I’m coming to you @justinbieber.” Following the event, the fan was involved in a severe car crash, killing herself and seriously injuring the other vehicle involved, her blood alcohol level was .10. Friends and family claim the young woman had suffered from behavioral problems and had continuing delusions of a relationship with Bieber for several years.
Betty White Dies at 93: One of the most beloved actors in history, Betty White, has passed away at 93. Known for her role in Golden Girls, Hot in Cleveland and countless cameos, she passed away in her home. The public was previously unaware of any conditions the actress might have had, but the family has asked for privacy in this difficult time and an official cause of death has not been released. The actress was unique in the sense that she never received bad publicity. Rarely did one see terrible pictures of a raging Betty White in the tabloids. Her sweet voice, calm demeanor, outspoken personality and hilarious antics will forever be remembered.
And The Awkward: Take it as good news, take it as bad news, but uh… here ya go.
April Fools’ Day!: If some of you are really confused, slightly scared, or elated, this entire post is just a big APRIL FOOLS’! Enjoy your fake news, the real stuff will return on a more serious day. Good Luck with the real world…
