Hot off their new album and ready to bring it, Dumpstaphunk returns to Brooklyn Bowl this Saturday, 11/23. Ivan Neville, Ian Neville, Nick Daniels, Tony Hall and Nikki Glaspie always put on one of the phunkiest shows out there, putting their own special twist on that NOLA funk that ranges from upbeat, raging party jams to more soulful, passionate slowjams. Their recent album (check out my review of “Dirty Word” here) really exhibits another level of talent and reiterates the fact that they can successfully dabble in any style, often creating their own. It’s always a party with Dumpstaphunk in the house, a longtime favorite of mine and I would encourage fans of any genre of music to come check out.
When you combine members of the infamous Neville family, Beyonce’s former drummer, and a couple of extremely talented bassists, of course you’re going to wind up with an awesome band. However, Dumpstaphunk’s unique sound and energy provide for an atypical, soul-cleansing experience. Get ready to dance your face off to everything from funk to hip hop to R & B, with a slew of unexpected covers (the last time they were at the Bowl they broke into a medley involving Ludacris, Jay Z, Q Tip and more).
Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad will be opening, tickets are $15, and as always at the Bowl, this event is 21+. Get your tickets now, and check out a clip from the last time Dumpstaphunk was in town.
