The Glitch Mob Release New Album
The Glitch Mob has certainly gained attention this past year after releasing their sophomore album, Love Death Immortality, making it to the top of the charts back in 2014. The record put a creative spin on electronic dance music by adding in some rock fusion and bass – an overall huge success resulting in being blasted through the most massive of sound systems over the last 12 months.
As of now, the trio is officially back in full throttle and ready to surprise their committed fans by redefining their latest album with the release of yet another set of tracks. The new record is an 18-song compilation of remixes, covers, and remakes of the original jams heard on Love Death Immortality and is set to be released via Glass Air Records – just in time to provide our eager ears with some fresh tunes to be excited about during this mid-Winter rut.
The LP will feature remixes by notable artists in the electronic scene such as Bassnectar, Plaid, Nadastrom, Mord Fustang, Si Begg, and Emilkay. Lucky for us, the considerate group has recently posted some tracks from the upcoming remix album on Soundcloud, giving us a preview of what to expect when the full record drops. The teaser-tracklist possesses a genuine style of its own, refining the original songs of Love Death Immortality into more space-like melodies enriched with layers of electronic synths and the classic, heavy-hitting bass that we all know and love. 4 tracks in particular stuck out and are reviewed below.
Opening up with “Our Demons (Filous Remix)”, wavy beats and background vocals can be heard throughout the track, making it the slowest tune when compared to the other three. It gives off a nature-esque feel as a smooth introduction in order to set the mood for the upcoming heavier tracks and, in addition, The Glitch Mob released a video to accompany the new remix.
“Fly By Night Only (Yaarrohs Cover)” is romantic and dark, continuing the smooth-sounding vibes heard in the previous track while also including angelic vocals throughout. The track is trippy and dreamlike – with soft piano melodies that seem to immerse the listener into a captivating trance that’s almost hypnotizing.
Flowing freely into the third song by coming in slow and steady, “Mind of a Beast (Si Begg Remix)” eventually picks up with a heart-thumping beat as the piano fades out and the bass kicks up. Fusing together electronic sounds with heavier noises and hints of rock, The Glitch Mob’s notable energy is released in this 8-minute track through a head-banging bass drop, perfect for those ready to get down. Mellowing out towards the end and quietly finishing, this track seems to be the most interesting of the previewed remixes and could perhaps be the main focal point of the new album due to it’s heavy progression and versatile sound.
The last track, “Beauty of the Unhidden Heart (Chrome Sparks Remix)”, keeps the upbeat-dance trend going in a softer manner with less bass. The remix infuses lighter beats, background sounds and beat-scapes while still maintaining the classic electronic groove, bringing the playlist to a close.
Overall, the style of the previewed 4 tracks successfully prepares the listener for the upcoming remix album. The tunes are dynamic and original, and if the rest of the album compares, Love Death Immortality LP is likely to give notable definition to the original sound that The Glitch Mob has successfully sculpted as their own.
