Goldroom Brings the Sunshine on a Rainy Day
The first year of Mamby on the Beach was a huge success. Even though the weather wasn’t the best on the first day, the music truly brought the heat. Goldroom in particular brought the California sunshine through their energy, music, and love for the crowd…even if it was raining at the time.
Due to some schedule changes at this year’s Mamby, Goldroom’s set started a little later than anticipated. An eager audience waiting for the stage to light up with Goldroom’s undeniable aura. Finally Josh Legg and his band came on stage with their smiling faces, ready to groove. Their beautiful singer was beaming in her tight white skinny jeans and cute sheer black crop top. Legg, in his usual casual Cali wear, announced the group’s name to the crowd. “We’re Goldroom. We’re from LA and we make music for this [the beach]” The band got the ball rolling, opening with “Sweetness Alive.”
Just as the music kicked off and the crowd started to warm up, the sprinkles began. It started as a mist, then got heavier as the new songs began, but “Till Sunrise” made the crowd forget about the rain all together, and once “Only You Can Show Me” finished, Legg asked the crowd,”How do we feel about this rain? Because I think I like it.” The crowd responded joyously, embracing the rain in the high humidity on the beach. Goldroom’s remix of “Mother Protect” was a jam session in the best way possible, and everyone was lost in the California vibes. Then, Legg and the gang took us to “Mykonos” for another familiar remix. The remix part of the show ended with the well-known “Dance With Nobody” to keep the crowd nice and warm in the cool rain.
Goldroom ended their set with a bang, leaving the entire crowd in awe, smiling, and maybe a little exhausted from dancing in the sand so much. Legg and friends slowed things down for my personal favorite “Fifteen” and everyone sang along, its catchy chorus resonating across the festival. Of course, they had to end with the latest single from Legg’s recent It’s Like You Never Went Away EP, “Embrace.” Even those unfamiliar with the name Goldroom recognized this upbeat and extremely popular tune. If a beach floor could shake, this was the time for it. Everyone rejoiced in the pick-me-up to end the set and everyone walked away in awe of Goldroom and his band. These guys never skip a beat and never lose their positive energy. California truly travels with Goldroom, and even though the sunshine might not follow, the energy and happiness that his music brings makes everyone shine from within.
