He Is Me Unleash Their Maniacal Debut Single “Let It Drip”
With summer slowly fading into memory and the advent of colder darker months quickly approaching, sometimes it’s important to cleanse your musical palette in order to transition with the seasons. “Let It Drip” comes as the perfect harbinger of the bleaker days and colder temperatures of autumn. The sinister brain child of Casey Braunger (music/production) and Steve Moore (vocals/lyrics), He Is Me, a brand new musical project that seeks to explore the deeper, more emotional expanses that exist beneath all of our surfaces. With their first single, Braunger and Moore show that they have the ability to collaborate in a boldly unique way that is a fresh reprieve from the sun-soaked sensibilities of the summer time.
“Let It Drip” is a hugely immersive track with massive soundscapes and a free flowing structure. While the track certainly has a murky almost malevolent vibe, it is also tinged with an unmistakable ambient element. What’s very intriguing about this debut single is the balance between Moore and Braunger to create a very vivid and emotional message. Braugner entrances the listener with his heavy industrialized sound and pulls you deeper into He Is Me’s sonic void. Moore captures the listener’s imagination with his hypnotic lyrics that are repeated constantly in the background like a devilish mantra, “Out from the ruins….arise.”
What’s most exciting about this debut from He Is Me is the duo’s ability to balance opposing forces with a deft approach. While “Let It Drip” is certainly a brooding and dark track, it also has the distinct feel of a call to action. While the tension that is built throughout the tune can definitely play to the listener’s emotions, it also helps to create head space and allow for contemplation. Moore’s manic vocals and caterwauling add a sense of directed madness to the track with at times can give the listener a feeling of uneasiness. I believe that is the main objective of “Let It Drip” in the first place, to make the audience have a strong visceral reaction. Reminiscent of a subdued and somber Nine Inch Nails spliced together with an industrialized version of Future Islands, He Is Me carves out a very interesting sound for themselves with their debut single “Let It Drip.”
With this first endeavor under their belts, He Is Me looks to build on their sonic development with their next upcoming single, “Drowning Man/Ocean Man,” which was set to debut on September 10th, but may be pushed back to the 12th or the 13th.
