Michele Bachmann: People ‘Aren’t Ready’ For A Female President
By Laura Matthews
International Business Times — U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., has some words of advice for former first lady Hillary Clinton if she decides to run for president in 2016: Forget it. It’s just not going to happen.
Michele Bachmann, the only female presidential candidate in 2012, told TriCities.com in an interview published Wednesday that Clinton won’t be America’s chief executive anytime soon because many people “aren’t ready” for a female president. But didn’t stop there: The Minnesota congresswoman also said that President Barack Obama was elected to office out of Americans’ “guilt.”
“I think there was a cachet about having an African-American president because of guilt,” she was quoted by syndicated columnist Cal Thomas as saying. “People don’t hold guilt for a woman.”
The congresswoman also told Thomas that people vote for women for practically every other office but that she doesn’t “think there is a pent-up desire” for a woman to sit in the White House as president.
