Humans of TomorrowWorld + TomorrowWorld 2013 Aftermovie
When I first got involved in TomorrowWorld, I assumed the festival would be overrun by annoying bros and girls who thought that there was an inverse relationship between the amount of clothing one wears and the level of dedication to the EDM scene. My friend encouraged me to join the TomorrowWorld USA Facebook forum and at first I was pretty skeptical. Generally these kinds of forums are breeding grounds for people to prove how “heady” they are and to just ream on each other. Just to give you an idea of what kind of fierceness you’ll find, he’s a tiny example of a normal conversation in another festival’s forum:
That’s just a few comments out of about 100. So when my friend suggested I joined the TomorrowWorld forum, I figured they would be sipping more of the same Haterade. Boy was I surprised. In the months leading up to the festival, people were connecting in a way that I never expected. Personal stories about triumph over cancer were shared, meet ups to practice gloving or trade kandi were organized, engagement photos were posted, and much more. This forum became a real community for people to bond and share through the virtual world.
During TomorrowWorld I still had the expectations that the crowd would not be good, that people would be there to just inflict as much damage to their livers and brains as possible and they would just hang around the Main Stage to hear the only acts they had ever heard of. Again, I was totally blown away. Everyone was incredibly friendly– friendlier than any festival I had ever been to. I never saw anyone out of control and people were really respectful of one another. I never felt uncomfortable or annoyed at any point. Even the staff was insanely friendly and happy.

Humans of TomorrowWorld
Over the next few weeks, Sensible Reason will be profiling just a few of the “Humans of TW:” people who came, saw, and conquered the festival. Because what was special about TomorrowWorld was that each individual felt valued and that their experience was unique while also shared with a community of people who had similar values of fun, happiness, and peace. The crowd featured people from around the globe, from all kinds of backgrounds, and all kinds of interests, but they all came together to share in this amazing experience of music and community. We hope that in some small way this series will be able to highlight the diverse group of people and their experiences at TomorrowWorld.
If you or someone you know exemplifies the spirit of TomorrowWorld and would like to be highlighted in this series, please contact Kristen@SensibleReason.com
