So I went up to New York for Turkey Day. It was amazing, obviously, but that is totally not what I am here to talk to you about. I would like to let you all know about this little event that I went to this Saturday. I shouldn’t call it little, actually. A better word would be Massive…. GLOW Massive to be exact.
To be quite honest, the event itself should not have been as good as it was. I think there were a few key factors that made the night so fantastic. A quick glance showed the Line-up was filled with artists, but most of them I had not even heard of, and for the most part the ones that I did…. I had absolutely no interest in seeing live. Well I’m gonna eat those words right now, because the music was absolutely amazing. Literally every DJ that I saw, whether they were just mixing or playing their own tracks, was going as hard as they could. Even when the party was just starting (4 p.m.) and nobody was there, every artist was playing their heart out. And trust me when I say, I know if a DJ is half-assing that shit or not. Now that the artists that most people were not expecting to be amazing were, that meant that all the artists that people were expecting to be amazing really needed to bring their A game, and they absolutely did.
Best moments definitely came from DJ Havoc, who made that outdoor tent his bitch. He must’ve played like ten remixes that I thought only I knew about. The X-ecutioners blew me away for sure. Not only because they destroyed that dance floor, but because their flat out scratching skills are something I have never actually seen done to that level of professionalism. Caffeine is somebody I had never actually seen live, although I had heard some of his music. His name is definitely not false advertisement. You see, I had done my research and I knew from what I had heard of his tracks I was not going to be into it. Wrong again. I literally took two steps away from the stage before I had to immediately begin raging again; the dude absolutely killed it. I know I am missing a few of them, but it was really hard to keep track of all the good music….believe me.
Finally it was time for the main event, at least for me. Tommie Sunshine is somebody I have been following forever. He may actually have been one of the first electronic artists I ever saw growing up. Anyway, if his beard is not enough to make you to fall in love with him, his jams would definitely do the rest. I knew he was going to be ridiculous, but as I said before, it was just like every person we saw was playing the last set they were ever going to. I mean, he really let it all out on the stage. He’s also one of the most down-to-earth people I have ever met coming out of that scene. His attitude just says “Hey man, how are you? Let’s be friends. Oh, and by the way, after this is over you’re not even gonna know where you are.”
In the end, it was all the amazing people busting their asses who made this so much more than some Brooklyn Rave. God only knows how many hours, how many heartaches and snags are just inevitable when you attempt to do these types things. I can’t tell you how many disappointing “raves” I have been to in Brooklyn over the years. You know, the ones that are just gonna be the most amazing thing ever until the fire marshal comes and shuts it down an hour before it starts. But seriously, they totally pulled it off. The security was amazing, the crowd was amazing. Even the cops were helpful when people were leaving the place… What?
So a huge shout out and thanks to all those people who put the whole thing together. It was an obvious success and from what I hear, there are going to be plenty more of these, including one coming very soon that is going to be on a–? That’s right, you guessed it…. A boat.
And Since I Know Your Wondering Hear is one of Tommie Sunshine’s Newest Tracks…
