In the Spotlight: Novelectro
Based out of Philadelphia, Novelectro this young four piece electro-rock band is coming out swinging. Having already played well-established venues such as The River Street Jazz Cafe in Plains, PA where bands such as Brothers Past and Lotus first got their start, they are also heading in the right direction, it seems. With 5 shows under their belt for this 2012 year, and many other shows booked they definitely have a full schedule lined up. They may be underground for now, but certainly not for long. They not only bring the perfect ingredients from all of the bands we’ve grown to love in this jam scene, but they execute every show with the element of ease and professionalism you would come to expect from a much older band.
With as many bands currently putting themselves out there at this moment Novelectro certainly stands out. With Adam Feigelman on bass, or in this case a Mini-Moog, it brings a fresh new feeling compared to your normal “livetronica” band of today. The segues are smooth, orginal, and structured, with the peaks as hard hitting as a hammer to the jaw. You’ll find yourself staring off as they take you on their musical journey. With influences such as The New Deal and The Disco Biscuits they do a great job standing out and staying relevant. Last time I was able to catch them, I found myself not wanting to leave, in fear that I would miss something special. Two hours later, I (and the whole crowd) was left cheering on for more as we slowly realized it was back to reality for us. The show had ended and we were no longer on their musical journey.
While the show may have ended for us, this up and coming band is certainly on a journey of their own. It has been a great while since a band so determined, passionate, and talented as Novelectro has taken the scene. With times as hard as they are, the job market crashing, and money becoming tighter, Novelectro is a true treat. You certainly aren’t left with a feeling of regret after spending a night with this band. They have alot of shows lined up for this year already, with the most recent coming up at The Brunswick Hotel in Lancaster, PA, on April 20th, 2012.
